Todays business session (which I managed to get to on time) focused on range planning and buying. I have never done anything among those lines so it was a new way of working. I didn’t think it was difficult to apply the information we got to the tasks, since it was very logical and made a lot of sense. Like a puzzle. Complicated but not difficult.
Although it really isn’t a way of designing that I enjoy, being able to do a lesson on it was quite interesting and informative. I would feel to constrained in this type of job/position. You definitely make way more money with this type of design, nevertheless I think it is not for me. It’s too commercial and not artistic (in terms of the designs) enough. It’s a very important job… and if I had a company I would hire someone else or do it. Though the structured way of compiling information and going from A to B is something I’ll try to adapt in my own (research) work. I think especially the way we explored different product categories (ex. Group work Eyewear) could be helpful when brainstorming, because it helps you consider EVERY possible option and keep an overview of the possibilities.
I really enjoyed the group work activities, which was surprising to me. Turns out that group work can be productive instead of miserable, when you are working with competent and dedicated individuals. Who could have thought it? Guess I’m slowly getting over my Highschool Group Work PTSD.
Here are pictures of the group work we did in class today:
